A Massachusetts man is facing several charges after police said he used bear spray on people outside a restaurant in Lebanon, New Hampshire.According to Lebanon police, 41-year-old John Cahill is facing six counts of simple assault, four counts of disorderly conduct, a single count of criminal threatening and driving under the influence.Police said a couple of patrons of the 110 Grill were crossing Plainfield Road on Friday and that Cahill was not happy about it. He is accused of following them in his vehicle and confronting them in front of the restaurant, in addition to other patrons there. “He took a can of bear spray out and sprayed it at a couple of peoples’ backs but ultimately ended up hitting five or six different people with it,” said Lebanon Police Chief Phillip Roberts.Roberts said no one was seriously hurt, but bear spray is about three times more powerful than something like pepper spray, which is designed for people. “It also has a real high, fast rate of delivery compared to the (oleoresin capsicum) that’s designed to be used on humans,” the police chief said. “As you can imagine, when you’re trying to spray a bear that’s attacking you, you want a high level with a large animal like that. So it’s a lot more concentrated, and the delivery is faster.”Patrons Audrey and Michael Walker said they found the situation disturbing. “You just don’t know what people are going to do and how they’re going to react,” Audrey Walker said. Cahill is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
