STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) — Two men were killed when their boat apparently struck a breakwall off the eastern Connecticut shoreline, state authorities said Saturday.

The accident happened Friday evening off the coast of Stonington, not far from the Rhode Island border.

State environmental conservation police responded to a reported boating accident Saturday. Officials said they found the two men dead at the scene and their center console boat adrift. The men’s names were not immediately released.

Police said it appeared from a preliminary investigation that the boat hit a breakwall sometime Friday evening.

The incident remains under investigation. Officials are asking any witnesses to call the state environmental conservation police.
